Ebony:
Ebony is mainly found in Cameroon, Gabon, Congo and Guinea. Its particularity is that it is deep black, sometimes veined or with lighter patches. This precious wood has given it name to the French name for cabinet-making even though nowadays they will work a variety of wood. Its grain is very tight, giving it its incomparable polish.
Damascus steel...
The term "damascus" is often used to indicate the high quality of steel.
The designation comes from the first Crusaders who, around the year 1000, discovered the extraordinary steel used by the Saracens for their blades.
Forging damascus steel could be compared to the folding of puff pastry in a chef's kitchen, but using steel. It forges together several types of steel in layers, soldered and folded over and over.
