The anchor is a symbol of hope and steadfastness.
By virtue of its weight it represents stability, tranquility and steadfastness,
holding fast in the midst of the moving sea and the elements.
Capable of maintaining the heaviest ships in place through a storm, the anchor is the safeguard of seamen in peril; hence, by extension, the symbolism of faithfulness and hope.
As a symbol of hope and salvation, the anchor is thought to bring protection from marine accidents and fires. This is why many will urge travellers to carry with them an object bearing an anchor.
With the Actiforge knife bearing the marine Anchor you will have on your travels an item both useful and with protective virtues.
The marine anchor is obtained by cold forging. A concave die is engraved and used to hammer the anchor into cold metal. The cross is then de-burred, polished and inserted into the knife handle.
The anchor is also a symbol in Christianity.
It was frequently represented during the 2nd and 3rd Centuries in the Christian catacombs and cemeteries of Rome. On the tombs of early Christians, it symbolised salvation.
The anchor symbolised abiding hope but also steadfastness in faith, consciousness, poverty and tribulations and salvation. One meaning is given in St Paul's Epistle to the Hebrews (6:19): "This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast [...]".
