French artisanal making
This wood is not at all popular with lumberjacks, as it is very hard to cut. It is so dense that it does not float and its heartwood is known to be rot-proof.
The smell of juniper wood is reminiscent of the sweet and spicy scent of pepper. Its smooth and shiny appearance brings out the natural beauty of the rings and veins of its roots.
A little background history...
Commonly known as "Cade", juniper wood is highly prized for its beneficial virtues.
In the Middle Ages, southern French farmers removed the embers from the hearth to repel insects and absorb odours. A fire made with cade wood is also a bactericide. In Antiquity, it was very common to use juniper for fumigation purposes to disinfect homes and even the streets to keep out the plague and cholera.
