Damascus steel...
The term "damascus" is often used to indicate the high quality of steel.
The designation comes from the first Crusaders who, around the year 1000, discovered the extraordinary steel used by the Saracens for their blades.
Forging damascus steel is a similar principle to the folding puff pastry in a chef's kitchen, but using steel. It forges several types of steel in layers soldered and folded over and over.
Did you know?
Izmir is a white stone found in Turkey, but it is also and foremost a town in west Turkey. It is the second port and the third town in the country. More modest in size than Istanbul, the town has a very touristic sea-front and its old town is a place to stroll and meander which is well worth the journey. The world-renowned stone bears the name of the town where the international marble show is organised each year.
