Juniper wood (Juniperus Oxycedrus), also known as ‘cade’, is a highly fragrant species and varying in tone from warm reddish-brown hues to yellow.
Thanks to its durability and fine grain, it was formerly used for the manufacture of spindles, sculptures, musical instruments, tool handles, walking sticks and, of course… knives!
Did you know?
This wood has many uses as well as medicinal virtues. It is actually a powerful antiseptic, which was used for fumigation purposes until the 19th century for driving away disease.
The oil extracted from the wood has tried and tested healing properties.
There is even the National Genever museum in Hasselt, Belgium, where you can learn all about this life source!
