There is no ''standard'' answer – it all depends on what you wish to do with it.
For daily use, choose a folding knife, its size will make it easy for you to carry it around everywhere conveniently
If you wish to use it occasionally, then you may wish to treat yourself to a knife with a handle made of solid-wood (ebony, rosewood, olive-tree…), bone, horn, antler… Let your instinct guide you to find the perfect knife.
If you are more of a sailing type, such knives are too fragile. You would do better to choose a modern knife with a handle made of synthetic material : carbon fiber, G-10, micarta, glass fiber...
Designed for intensive use or extreme climate conditions, most of them come with a belt clip as well as a one-handed opening system, such as holes or stops on the blade.
Fixed-blade knives are recommended for outdoor use. Hunting, hiking, or the simple pleasures of a walk in the woods (gathering plants, mushrooms, branches…) are ideal opportunities to use your solid blade knife. Fishing and diving fans will also find fixed-blade knives useful to help them in many situations, using them as fishing and diving knives.
And last but not least, meal knives, whether you need them for cooking or eating, will also be fixed-blade knives. Serrated or not, they will soon become indispensable to food amateurs of all ages!
