Horn is a traditional material whose use dates from the 19th century.


Several animal species may be selected for the crafting of distinctive handle designs and markings: the buffalo (black horn only), the zebu (black, blonde or marbled) or the impala... These animals generally come from Africa and Asia. The horn can be black (buffalo horn) and come in a great many shades varying from dark beige to plain black, each one being unique.


Horn is a precious and fragile material. It requires special care and maintenance. It is very prone to drying out (care should therefore be taken in summer). To prevent this from happening, simply nourish your knife handle with pure neatsfoot oil or grease.

One of the nicest knives I have owned. Saw this knife on "How It's Made! and was so impressed, bought three! For me, and 2 for gifts. Opening is a little tight, but I think with a few months use, that will loosen up and be easier to open. But the quality is beyond great!
